Kazakhstan 2024
Our journey began in Great Britain with a team of eight athletes, coming from different universities across the country including the University of Cambridge, University College London, and the University of Bristol, before we united as Team Great Britain. In the lead-up for the games, we convened in southern Britain to train as a cohesive unit and build our team chemistry.
Once our place to compete in Arkan Tartys (tug of war) in the World Nomad Games was confirmed, we travelled to Mongolia to embrace the spirit of the event and explore the remarkable nomadic lifestyle that people have lived for thousands of years—and which many still live today.
From there, we continued on to Astana, Kazakhstan, where we resumed training ahead of our matches against teams such as: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan in a round-robin tournament. After a fiercely competitive and thoroughly enjoyable day of competition, Team Great Britain finished in 6th place.

Our experience was unforgettable, thanks in large part to the exceptional hospitality, impeccable organisation, and genuine kindness of everyone involved in the games — from the volunteers and organisers to the athletes and the people of Kazakhstan.
We were fortunate to witness inspiring nomadic sports such as Kokpar, Horseback Wrestling, and Ordo, while meeting athletes with fascinating backgrounds who shared the rich history and significance of these sports within the Nomad Games.
During our time in Kazakhstan, we had the incredible opportunity to immerse ourselves in a rich new culture, experienced through its sports, cuisine, traditions—and most importantly, the warmth and generosity of the Kazakh people.
With all this being said, we are very excited to be returning to the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan, 2026!
